The flights have 1 stop each way, in Montreal or Toronto.
Overall, this is not as exciting as the Japan prices that showed up a few months ago.
But there are a couple of dates around New Year's available (the date range where price drops rarely ever happen).
The flights can be to either Tokyo's NRT airport (the one that's further from downtown Tokyo) or to Tokyo's HND airport (the one that's close to downtown). They may be into one airport, and home from the other.
Tokyo is a Shinto Buddhist nation, but they *love* to create incredible Christmas light displays.
You can also find 1-stop flights from Ottawa to Osaka / Kyoto, Japan for a similar price, in late August, September, and October.
